Tourism Management Programme

The Student Tourism Programme was officially launched on 24 February 2001 by the Minister of Culture, Arts and Tourism in collaboration with the Minister of Eduation. This three-year (diploma) full-time programme provides sound technical knowledge and skills in the field of tourism management. Students are specifically trained to achieve high standards in terms of technical competencies in areas of travel and tour operations and management, airline operations and management, sales and marketing of travel products, and travel retail management.


Definition of Tourism:

Tourism is travel for recreational, leisure or business purposes. The World Tourism Organization
(WTO) defines tourists as people who "travel to and stay in places outside their usual environment for more than twenty-four (24) hours and not more than one consecutive year for leisure, business and other purposes not related to the exercise of an activity remunerated from within the place visited". 



To stimulate domestic tourism activities by cultivating a tourism culture among students to encourage travel especially to historical and cultural places and eco-tourism destinations and to stimulate domestic tourism activities by cultivating a tourism culture among students to encourage travel especially to historical and cultural places and eco-tourism destinations and also to enhance racial unity and integration among the younger generation through properly planned tourism activities and travels.


Objective of the programme:

The main objective of the programme is to supply the demand of manpower for the competitive tourism industry in Malaysia.
